Ride Recap 2022-05-17: Little Brown Jug (Maybee, MI)

Great riding weather, 69° to start, barely in the 60’s when dinner was over. 4 riders confirmed, but when KSU hit, we were up to 10 riders. We traveled 50 miles in 87 minutes, which was quicker than I expected.

A bit of fumbling on my part for my first “ride leader instructions,” I got through it with some help from Sam and Ollie (Thanks!). When you hear it every ride you think you remember it, but then that public speaking monster steps in and makes you forget ½ the words. Sam offered to ride sweep and we got the com’s synced up. Although there was a bit of construction at the FMC South location, the group smoothly made the double left turn to get on Ecorse Road. Com’s worked great initially, but then I was hearing some distortion and thought maybe there was a problem. Eventually the “distortion” turned out to be Sam’s exhaust note just loud enough to activate the mic and let me hear the engine rev up. I chose some familiar roads to me and the club. Savage Road, over to Huron River Drive and follow it to Telegraph. Traffic was light on Telegraph, and we got through 3 red lights with only a minor interruption. From here we took South Huron River Drive east to N. Dixie Hwy (a.k.a West Jefferson in that area). Traveling south on N Dixie Hwy offers some comfortable cruising alternating trees and fields with a view of the Fermi 2 Nuclear Plant. Using Hurd Road we traveled west back to Telegraph for 2 miles to reach S. Stony Creek Rd. After some curves and sweeps we turned south on Sumpter Road, and used various roads to pass one of the quarries in Monroe County.

Dinner at the Little Brown Jug was as good as I remembered it from last year. Conversation during dinner revolved around trips, work, hunting and entertainment, although I may have gone on too much about “The Rouge”. A few of us were still hanging around in the parking lot for more conversation as the sky darkened. Thanks to everyone who attended the ride, those who helped me out, and thanks to Sam for riding Sweep.
